Mentor - Community Outreach Lead
America Ramirez Lomeli is a second-year at UC Davis majoring in Political Science and hopes to soon double major in Sociology or Chicana/o studies. Her goal is to attend law school after graduating and going into law to create real change. She is creative, loves art and painting. America is family-oriented and loves her two younger siblings and her mom, who as a single parent is America’s hero, biggest inspiration and motivation.
She is invested in helping her community, and especially passionate about supporting undocumented youth. As a testimony of her commitment to service, she has accumulated over 3,000 hours of community service. She has previously organized and led a toy drive. Notably she once made a ball gown for her sister's talent show made entirely out of recycled materials like newspapers, among other things.
America worked hard in high school and focused on scholarships, thanks to her efforts today she attends UCDavis on a full ride and can solely focus on her studies and the opportunities offered to her. She lives by the motto “Service-above-self” and is so excited to be a Mentor and be a part of the Dream STEM Initiative. During the virtual coding camps, she is looking forward to meeting all the bright and talented students and hearing about their dreams and aspirations.
